About

The Asphalt Monks:

A Family of Bikers Who Love All and Serve All.

Our Mission

“A family of bikers who love all and serve all.”

Ya, we know. It’s sounds a bit extravagant. Thing is, we’re still amazed that God can love people like us, and we figure that the least we can do in return is spread that kind of grace around a bit.

Our History

The Asphalt Monks existed in “Wild Hogs” form long before they became an official Motorcycle Ministry. 5 good friends would get together at least once a year, riding their motorcycles through western Canada and the States until they were sick of each other and headed back home.

The Original Asphalt Monks

When some 1% clubs began to be more prominent in southern Alberta, the original Asphalt Monks decided to quit wearing their “cut” out of respect.

Over the years, a couple of the original Asphalt Monks slowly started to build relationships with people associated with the 1% Motorcycle Club culture. As these relationships continued to grow, the two friends felt a deep longing to minister to this growing demographic in southern Alberta.

With the blessing of their friends, they began the process of establishing the Asphalt Monks as a legitimate Motorcycle Ministry.

Our Values

Brotherhood

Membership: True brotherhood takes time. Every Asphalt Monk has proven that they are willing to put in the time to gain the respect and trust of the other members. Every member takes to heart and demonstrates a commitment to God, Family, the Asphalt Monks and Community, in that uncompromising order.

Ministry Life: Building a true brotherhood takes work. The Asphalt Monks are a brotherhood, with members riding side by side both on the road and in life. Openness (honesty), grace (believing the best about one another) and forgiveness are the tools we use to build our brotherhood one conversation at a time. A member must be willing and able to go at a moment’s notice when called upon by his brothers.

Community Life: Jesus said that all people would know (see) we are his disciples if we love one another. We model freedom and brotherhood so that the world will not just know, but see, that Jesus is Lord.

Freedom

Membership: We believe true freedom comes through Jesus Christ, and therefore every Asphalt Monk is a committed disciple, living under the authority of Jesus and dedicated to spiritual growth. An Asphalt Monk forsakes the trappings of this world and finds freedom in a simple life lived in the service of others.

Ministry Life: Freedom through The Way of Jesus is at the core of everything we do as a motorcycle ministry. We cultivate and celebrate freedom in each other’s lives. We recognize that freedom is a muscle gained by exercising responsibility, so we take responsibility for ourselves, our brothers, and our families.

Community Life: We are committed to bringing a taste of freedom to everyone we meet and take responsibility for the health of our communities. We serve those who are searching, suffering, in need of a friend, a listening ear, a shoulder to rest or weep on, both in the biker community and the civilian community. We are fathers to the fatherless and brothers to the brotherless.

Open Roads

Membership: Simply put, every Asphalt Monk is a biker. It isn’t an image we project; it’s just who we are.

Ministry Life: In ministry life, open road refers to every members’ commitment to removing the personal potholes and roadblocks in our lives that make the Way of Jesus more difficult for ourselves and our brothers. We ride a road of humility.

Community Life: Asphalt Monks seek out and maintain “open roads” of relationship in the biker community and beyond, demonstrating the Way of Jesus and inviting everyone to experience true freedom. The Asphalt Monks claim no territory, and our sole purpose is to serve and support the biker community, inclusive of all independents, MCs, RCs, MMCs, and other MMs. The Asphalt Monks ride this road we call life with all, forsaking no one.

Simply put:

When we are asked, “Who are the Asphalt Monks and what are you guys about?”, the answer is that “We are a family of bikers who love all and serve all. Our core values are Brotherhood, Freedom, and Open Roads.”

We are a brotherhood, with members riding side by side both on the road and in life.

We believe true freedom comes through Jesus Christ.

We seek out and maintain “open roads” of relationship in the biker community and beyond, demonstrating the Way of Jesus and inviting everyone to experience true freedom.
